What is topical authority?

A site that covers a subject from every useful angle, with pages that link to each other and are cited by others, tends to rank more easily for new pages on that subject. That reputation is what SEOs call topical authority. It isn't an official Google metric, but it describes a pattern Google's systems reward: relevance and expertise across a topic.

How to build it

  1. Choose the topics central to your business.
  2. Map the questions buyers have within each topic.
  3. Publish thorough pages for them, organized into clusters around pillar pages.
  4. Link the pages together meaningfully.
  5. Earn mentions and links from others in the field.
