What is a topic cluster?

A topic cluster organizes content around one broad subject. The pillar page gives an overview of the whole topic; cluster pages go deep on specific subtopics and link back to the pillar, and the pillar links out to each of them.

For example, a pillar on "AI search" with cluster pages on AEO, GEO, AI Overviews, llms.txt and measuring AI visibility.

Why it works

  • Internal links concentrate authority on the pillar and spread it across the cluster.
  • Search engines see clear topical coverage.
  • Readers can move naturally from overview to detail.
