Knowledge Graph

A knowledge graph is a database of entities and the relationships between them. Google's Knowledge Graph powers the information panels in search results and helps its systems understand what a brand is and how it relates to other things.

What is a knowledge graph?

A knowledge graph stores facts as connections: "Acme — is a — payroll software company", "Acme — founded in — 2019", "Acme — headquartered in — Bengaluru". Google introduced its Knowledge Graph in 2012 with the phrase "things, not strings".

Why it matters

It shapes knowledge panels and the facts shown about you in search, and it helps Google's systems decide which entity a query refers to. AI systems have similar internal representations built from the web.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit Google's Knowledge Graph?

Not directly. If you have a knowledge panel, you can claim it and suggest changes. The lasting fix is consistent facts on your site and trusted sources.
