Entity

An entity is a distinct, identifiable thing, such as a company, person, product or place, that search engines and AI systems can recognize and connect facts to. Brands that are clearly defined as entities are easier for AI systems to recommend correctly.

What is an entity?

Search engines moved from matching words to understanding things. "Apple" can be a fruit or a company; context and linked facts tell them which. Each distinct thing, with its attributes and relationships, is an entity.

Why entities matter for brands

If search engines and AI systems understand your brand as a clear entity (what you are, what you sell, where, and who's behind you), they can connect questions to you and describe you accurately. Brands with ambiguous names, or inconsistent facts, get confused with others.

How to strengthen your entity

  1. Use your exact brand name consistently everywhere.
  2. Add Organization schema with your logo, URL and sameAs links to your profiles.
  3. Keep facts consistent across your site, social profiles and directories.
  4. Earn mentions that place your brand in its category.
