What is Share of Model?

Share of Model measures how much of the AI conversation in your category you own. If you ask five assistants ten buyer questions each, that's fifty answers. If your brand appears in twenty of them, your Share of Model is 40%.

Because the question set stays the same from month to month, the number shows whether your AI visibility is growing, and how you compare with competitors on the same questions.

How to calculate it

  1. Choose questions that reflect real buyer intent ("best CRM for a 10-person sales team").
  2. Ask each one across the assistants that matter to your buyers.
  3. Count answers that mention your brand.
  4. Divide by the total number of answers checked.

Many teams also weight mentions by position (named first versus in passing) and track the share for each competitor.

Why it matters

Share of Model connects AEO work to a number leadership can follow. It shows which assistants and which questions you're winning, and where competitors are ahead.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should I track?

Enough to cover your main products and buyer types. A few dozen well-chosen questions usually beat hundreds of generic ones.

Should branded questions count?

Track them separately. "What is [brand]?" measures accuracy; category questions measure visibility.
