What is prompt tracking?

Prompt tracking is to AI search what rank tracking is to SEO. You choose the questions that matter, ask them across assistants on a regular schedule, and record who is named and which sources are cited. Over weeks, the data shows whether your AI visibility is rising or falling and which competitors are gaining.

How to set it up

  1. Write prompts in buyers' language, covering each product and buyer type.
  2. Include direct brand questions to check accuracy.
  3. Run them across the assistants your buyers use, with search on where possible.
  4. Record mentions, position, sentiment, competitors and cited domains.
  5. Review trends monthly; single answers are too variable to judge alone.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just ask ChatGPT myself?

One answer is a snapshot. Answers vary by run, account and location, so only repeated, structured tracking shows real change.

What do the cited sources tell me?

Where the assistants get their information. Earning mentions on those sources is often the fastest way to improve visibility.
