Organic traffic

Organic traffic is visits that come from unpaid search results, as opposed to ads, social media or direct visits. It's the most common measure of SEO performance.

What is organic traffic?

Visitors who click a regular (non-ad) search result arrive as organic traffic. In GA4 it's grouped as the Organic Search channel; Search Console shows the same clicks from Google's side.

How to measure it well

  • Track conversions from organic traffic, not just sessions.
  • Look at landing pages and queries to see what's working.
  • Watch AI referral traffic alongside it; some discovery now happens in AI assistants.

Frequently asked questions

Why do GA4 and Search Console numbers differ?

They measure different things (sessions versus clicks), use different filters, and GA4 depends on visitors accepting its tracking.
