What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph is a protocol Facebook introduced and most platforms now read, including LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and X (which also has its own twitter: tags):

<meta property="og:title" content="What is AEO?">
<meta property="og:description" content="A plain-English guide to answer engine optimization.">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/og/aeo.jpg">

Why they matter

Links with a clear title and a good image get noticed and clicked more when shared. Without tags, apps guess, often badly.

Best practices

  1. Set og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url on every page.
  2. Use a 1200 × 630 image with a full https:// URL.
  3. Add twitter:card set to summary_large_image for X.
  4. Refresh cached previews with each platform's debugging tool after changes.
